The Robins finished the season in 8th place form 18 teams in the North West Counties 2nd Division, which considering the lack of fire-power-just 38 goals in 34 games, was quite an achievement.
Some of the highlights were reserved for the final game against Kirkby when Eric Geldard was sent off for swearing and throwing mud at a lineman! The same game was held up when sheep invaded the pitch, and
before the game Kirkby were presented with the League Champions Trophy.
It was Malcolm Darling’s first, and only, season as Harwood’s manager as he quit a month after the final game.
Chairman Tom Edwardson left England to set up home in Spain, leaving the club’s future once again in jeopardy. He’d rescued the club two years earlier as they looked set to drop into ‘junior football’.
Great Harwood Town Reserves won the Division Two title in their first season under the manager ship of Joe Kocsis.
