Mark Young

23 year-old Mark joined the club just a few weeks ago after signing from Hurst Green where he’d already scored over thirty goals this season. He actually lives in the village so we were lucky to acquire him, as it would have been far more convenient for him to stay put.
With leading scorers John Eastham and Paul Mashiter unlikely to feature for the Robins again, a tall player ‘with a bit of presence’ is exactly what we’ve been missing.
He made a very impressive debut in the recent League Challenge Cup defeat at Bacup, where he ran himself into the ground after being asked to play most of the game on his own up front. Standing 6’ 1” tall, he’s precisely what we’ve been looking for since the injury to John Eastham. He made his ‘home’ debut last week against leaders Fleetwood and was desperately unlucky not to have opened his account with a tremendous header that thumped against the post. His first couple of appearances have made him an instant hit with the supporters as he’s prepared to give it everything, even when we were three-nil down and had lost the game.
Mark is Liverpool mad as his best and worst moments will testify. His best moment in football wasn’t playing but supporting Liverpool when they won the FA Cup in 2001. His favourite current player is Xabi Alonso and his all time top man is Kenny Dalglish. His worst memory is the Hillsborough disaster. He only has one dislike that’s worth mentioning and that’s Everton. The best ground that Mark’s played on is Deepdale, the home of Preston North End, although I’m sure that he must be impressed with our temporary home of the Interlink Express Stadium.
Away from football, he enjoys playing golf and apart from that, his particular ‘likes’ are listed as….beer!
His family consists of, and I quote, ‘loads’-thanks for the in-depth information Mark!
Missing from the squad on Saturday, let’s hope that Mark is on show tonight and gets off the mark with the first of many goals for the Robins, today’s star-man………
